UNIDO’s global objective is to promote energy-efficient, sustainable industrial development and fight energy poverty in developing countries. In the case of Ukraine, this includes assistance in creating and restoring expert capacity and providing technologies that promote the efficient use of all types of resources.
The Head of the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving noted that a project worth more than USD 180 million has already been agreed with the Government of Japan as part of the Green Recovery Programme for Ukraine. The main idea of the project is to implement decarbonisation measures following the example of Japan, which has had such experience since 1973, using the best Japanese practices with the participation of Japanese companies in collaboration with Ukrainian industry! The project will be implemented in Ukraine for 7 years.
During the meeting, Anna Zamazeeva and UNIDO Senior Programme Coordinator for Ukraine Stephan Sicars also discussed the implementation of three new projects: for Ukrainian industry, a new generation of energy auditors for transport and processes, and the construction of a new balancing generation in the face of consumers.
In addition, they discussed further cooperation within the framework of the existing Project on Industrial Energy Efficiency and Energy Management Systems (UNIDO-GEF UKR IEE Project).
‘I am grateful to the UNIDO team for their stable support on the path of Ukraine’s energy-efficient development in all areas,’ said Anna Zamazeeva and added that the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving has been and remains a reliable partner in cooperation with UNIDO directly in the areas of energy efficiency, decarbonisation and renewable energy.
Anna Zamazeeva also pointed out the successes of the existing cooperation and plans to extend the programmes:
- A unique financial instrument – the Energy Efficiency Loan Guarantee Fund for Industrial Enterprises, which, in particular, guaranteed ESCO projects in industry, which alone resulted in energy savings of more than 5 GWh per year.
- Training programmes, which have already trained more than 200 experts of various levels in energy management, energy audits and optimisation of systems that consume energy.
- Policy and Institutional Support for the introduction of National EnMS Standards compatible with ISO 50000 series.
The Head of the SAEE assured that the State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving has been and remains a reliable partner in cooperation with UNIDO directly in the areas of energy efficiency, decarbonisation and renewable energy sources.
