The UNIDO/GEF UKR IEE Project Management team has participated in the first conference “Energy Efficiency of Aviation Infrastructure” organized by the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine and the European-Ukrainian Energy Agency on January 24, 2019.

The Project continues in providing its professional input for promoting the standards of ISO50000 series and foremost establishment of Energy Management System for addressing the Energy efficiency issues in Ukrainian industries.

As a highlight in the dedicated discussion the Project management team stated about importance of establishment of Energy Management System compliant to the requirements of the ISO 50001 standard: Mr. Oleksiy Paschenko, National Project Coordinator, noted about systemic approach that UNIDO promotes in identification and realization of EE measures, while Mr. Serhiy Porovskyy, Energy Efficiency Financing and Policy Expert, accentuated that provision of financing from IFIs for energy and energy efficiency projects will go with a requirement of  certified (under the ISO 50001 standard) Energy Management System. A representative of the European Investment Bank, Mr. István Heinczinger confirmed the Bank has such a requirement.

There was also a dialogue between the representatives of the aviation industry of Ukraine and the Project management team on specific joint steps aimed at consulting the national experts on the creation of the EnMS prepared by the Project to assist the enterprises of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine in the development of the EnMS in accordance with ISO 50001 standard.

In her closing remarks, the Director of EUEA, Oleksandra Gumeniuk, has acknowledged the input the Project and IFIs have provided and kindly asked to continue such collaboration in order to form clear tasks and actions for promotion of the  Energy Efficiency of Aviation Infrastructure in preparation for the next event in June 2019.
