A register of enterprises that have implemented certified energy and/or environmental management systems will be created in Ukraine. This is stipulated by the Law of Ukraine “On Energy Efficiency”.

Yesterday, the Government approved the Procedure for submitting information on the certification of energy and/or environmental management systems of entities, developed by the State Energy Efficiency Agency.

According to the Government’s resolution:
– certification bodies will provide the State Energy Efficiency Agency with information on the certification of energy and/or environmental management systems of enterprises in accordance with harmonized international standards in a specified form;
– based on the received information, the State Energy Efficiency Agency will form and maintain a register of these enterprises.

Thus, a single transparent approach to the systematization of information on the certification of the energy management system (EnMS) of enterprises will work.

According to the Law of Ukraine “On Energy Efficiency”:
– energy management systems implemented by enterprises must be certified by certification bodies accredited in Ukraine in accordance with the requirements of national standards harmonized with international standards;
– large enterprises, as well as other economic entities, in the case of attracting state support for the implementation of energy-efficient measures, are exempted from the obligation to conduct an energy audit when implementing a certified energy and/or environmental management system.

The most significant advantage of energy management systems is the optimization of energy consumption. According to various estimates, those enterprises that implement EnMS already during the first years receive an increase in energy efficiency within the range of 10-20%. This makes it possible to reduce the cost of production and increase the level of competitiveness.

“The implementation of energy management systems by business entities is an important factor in ensuring their energy security, sustainable functioning and further strategic development. Therefore, this tool should be widely used to overcome energy challenges in the short- and long-term perspective,” commented the Head of the State Energy Efficiency Agency Valery Bezus.
